GM takes the alleged Cadillac CT4 ‘V Plus’ out for a ride

In early June, media learned that General Motors was working on performance versions of its Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V. Two sedans/saloons wrapped in impervious test mule cladding made an entrance at the Detroit racing course back then. A few days ago, a souped-up CT4-V was spotted and photographed on a public road, confirming the manufacturer’s plans.

The photographer referred to the car as the ‘CT4 V Plus’ for some reason. There is no official name for the performance trim just yet, but another rumor claims the series will be called ‘Blackwing’.

In terms of purely visual differences, the car sports slightly revised front bumper and grille. There is the label that reads ‘Coast Down’ at the rear end, which usually means that the company is testing all kinds of resistance with this particular build (aerodynamic drag, bearing friction, and tire drag). The data thus gathered will be used to optimize fuel consumption and performance.

Some media voice opinions that the range-topping CT4 will get the same V6 Twin Turbo LGW engine as the CT6. The mill comes rated at 410 hp (306 kW) and 542 Nm (400 pound-feet) of torque on the CT6, but the horsepower could be trimmed down for the CT4.

The currently available Cadillac CT4-V ships with a 2.7-liter turbo-four engine capable of 324 hp (242 kW).
