Cadillac to revert to using human-friendly names for its cars

You may have noticed that all modern Cadillacs, with the only exception of the Escalade, have confusing alphanumeric model descriptors: XTS, CT6, CT5, XT5 – you name it. Gone are the days of the de Ville, Seville, Eldorado… Except they are coming back.

The statement comes directly from Cadillac. The company does not specify whether it plans to rename its current lineup or just revive the tradition of human-friendly naming in the new models. At any rate, the Escalade will be going into next generation soon, and the carmaker’s first electric SUV will be revealed in 2020 (some say as early as the Detroit Motor Show in January). The EV, which is depicted here, will mark a milestone for Cadillac, which plans to switch to electric power completely over the next 10 years.

The information on the new SUV is scarce, but unofficial sources say it will have enough room for six people and offer an impressive driving range of 600 or even 650 kilometers (375 – 400 miles). Allegedly, it will also come based on a brand-new platform and pack an advanced self-driving system. Finally, according to CEO Steve Carlyle, none of the electric Cadillacs will be inferior in terms of performance compared to their internal combustion engine counterparts.
