Hot Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing to debut before the end of the year

The performance sedan/saloon will emerge with a supercharged V8 6.2 LT4 under the hood and boast vastly superior specs compared against the regular CT5-V.

Rumors that a Blackwing variant of the CT5-V was in development began circulating in 2019. Brand fans and media reporters split their opinions on what kind of engine it would ship with. The abovementioned LT4 unit took the lead, but many believed that Cadillac would want to reuse a more modern V8 4.2 TT of the CT6-V for the model. As it turns out, however, the CT6 line will soon be discontinued, and the engine will have to go with it.

The standard CT5-V packs a 3.0-liter V6 rated at 365 hp (272 kW) and 549 Nm (407 lb-ft) of torque. While these numbers turned out significantly greater than those the carmaker had initially quoted when introducing the model last spring, they will still fall short of what the supercharged V8 is capable of. Some expect it to deliver as much as 600+ hp (450+ kW) along with 800+ Nm (600+ lb-ft) to the wheels using either a six-speed manual or ten-speed automatic transmission.

The CT5-V currently starts from U.S. $48,690 (RWD) and $51,290 (AWD).

Further highlights of the Blackwing series include special body kit parts and ornamental accents, stiffer suspension, stronger brakes, and wider tires.

While likely similar in size to the Mercedes-AMG E 63, the new Blackwing will probably cost around the same amount as the AMG C 63 ($68,100+).

The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing should be introduced later this year, but actual sales may have to wait until 2021.
