Even catafalques get a second chance to life sometimes. Take this ancient Cadillac, which two brothers from Illinois – Christopher and Mike – turned into a tall-roofed and creepy-looking campervan. The video tells everything there is to know about the project.
The car still uses its standard 5.7-liter V8, but the suspension is new. At around 5.4 meters (18 feet) long and nearly 2.7 meters (9 feet) tall, the camper weighs in at 2,857 kilos (roughly 6,300 lbs). Supporting this kind of weight on old suspension was impossible.
The brothers say the biggest challenge of the whole project was the roof, which they wanted to raise as high as possible. The resulting camper is far from spacious, but still manages to pack everything needed for a long road trip. There is a folding sofa, a kitchenette with a sink and a fridge, a slide-out TV set, a fireplace and even a carpet on the floor. The original project included a WC, but it was later removed to free up space.
