The upcoming Cadillac Celestiq sedan/saloon won’t be just the most technically advanced vehicle with Cadillac badge on it, but also the rarest and most expensive.
Rumors insist that the U.S. automaker plans to produce only a couple hundred Celestiq per year, priced north of 200,000 USD.
The car will benefit from its own, completely new EV-only architecture and feature a proprietary traction battery design called Ultium. Co-developed with LG Chem, the battery will ship in sizes ranging between 50 and 200 kilowatt-hours and voltages reaching as high as 800V. The maximum range will lie in the 400-mile (644-km) area, and charging will be made reasonably fast with the help of a new 350-kW charging device, the manufacturer reports.
The Celestiq will enter production at the General Motors factory in Michigan, USA, with domestic sales planned for mid-2022.
Aside from the above, GM is also preparing to launch the al-electric Cadillac Lyric (SUV), GMC Hummer (pickup truck) and Chevrolet EV (sports car). In 2022, the new Bolt EUV will hit the market with the Cadillac Super Cruise autopilot tech on board. Later on, 23 other models should get the same self-driving system.
