Many Cadillac fans were disappointed when the company launched the CT4-V and CT5-V last year, complaining that both so-called ‘performance’ sedans fell short of the glory of their predecessors – the ATS-V and the CTS-V. The Blackwing Edition announced today should fix this.
Don’t be mistaken, though: neither of the two will get the much-hyped V8 4.2 ‘Blackwing’ engine the CT6-V ships with. The company has already acknowledged that accommodating an engine this large under the hood of the CT5-V was impossible.
In all likelihood, this means that the CT4-V Blackwing will inherit the 3.6-liter, twin-turbo V6 from the ATS-V, while the CT5-V Blackwing may go with the older 6.2-liter supercharged V8 of the CTS-V. The former is rated at 470 hp (350 kW) and the latter at 649 hp (484 kW).
The manufacturer claims that both models have already been tested on the Virginia International Raceway with superb results, but no further details are provided.
One final important note concerns the transmission. Both Blackwing sedans will ship with optional manual box, which may make them especially attractive to those who wanted to buy a CT4 or CT5, but did not because both are automatic-only.
