Cadillac has announced that the upcoming entry-level CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing models will be available with six-speed manual transmission by default, although ten-speed automatic will be a paid option.
The manufacturer explains that driving the stick is still popular among Cadillac owners. Allegedly, a survey showed that 60 percent of adult American drivers know how to drive manual cars, and 40 percent of those who doesn’t know it wouldn’t mind learning. Adding to the appeal is the fact that the new manual gearbox is stronger built and switches more quietly than the old one.
The decision makes the CT4-V Blackwing North America’s only stick-shift sedan in its market niche.
Another interesting bit of news about the new CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing is that both will become the first General Motors-branded production cars to utilize 3D printed functional parts, such as electric suspension supports, air vents and gear levers.
