A homegrown imitation of the Batmobile from the 1989 Batman movie starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson will hit the auction block in mid-May. The car started its life as a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado and rocks pop-up miniguns alongside an 8.2-liter Cadillac V8.
The builder took care to reproduce Tim Burton’s Batmobile with painstaking precision, making sure it has the same profile with the cabin pushed towards the rear end. The rear wheels are particularly wide, and all the air intakes and aerodynamic fins are instantly recognizable.
Remotely controlled drive motors can extend fake miniguns from the front fascia and open the roof hatch.
A look inside reveals an interior not unlike that of a warplane, complete with authentic-looking dash gauges, switches and knobs. The transmission lever evokes associations with a pitch control lever used in aviation. A small screen on the front panel displays the video feed from the reversing camera.
The unique car has a plastic dome hood at the front end concealing the engine and the automatic transmission. Driving is made easy thanks to power steering and air suspension. The seller does not clarify whether the replica is street-legal, but says the buyer will be getting a free trailer specifically modded for carrying it around. There is no asking price, either.
