While some General Motors brands – especially Chevrolet – are fleeing the Chinese automotive scene after reporting extreme losses, Cadillac continues trying to secure a foothold in this turbulent market. Its latest XT5 is a plug-in hybrid crossover armed with localized tech and equipment.
You can tell the newest version by its redesigned, backlit radiator grille, aerodynamic louvers in the lower front fascia, eye-catching nine-spoke wheels with polished faces, and a minimalistic rear with concealed exhaust tips. The whole car is 4,888 millimeters (192.4 inches) long and has 2,863 mm (112.7 inches) between the axles.
Changes are few and far between in the cabin. As usual, paying for the top trim gets you an extended ADAS package complete with a LiDAR. The powertrain comprises a 1.5-liter turbo four-pot rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW), a front e-motor with 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and a rear e-motor with 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW). The system’s total output is capped at 367 PS (362 hp / 270 kW), though.
Various fuel economy tweaks enable the 2027 Cadillac XT5 PHEV for China to consume 6 liters of gas per 100 km in mixed cycle (~39 MPG in the United States). WLTC-rated all-electric range tops out at meager 155 kilometers (96 miles), but the battery only takes around 12 minutes to recharge from empty to full.
