Cadillac axes parking sensors on its SUVs due to crisis

Microchip shortage forced Cadillac to leave all three of its SUVs without proximity-based parking sensors, but the company promises to retrofit sold cars with the system in 2022 when it becomes available again.

The Luxury trim of the compact-sized 2022 Cadillac XT4 will make do without its rear assist sensors. The large XT5 and XT6 models will no longer have front or rear proximity sensors in Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport trims. Interestingly enough, it seems that the marque’s sedan lineup and the Escalade SUV are exempt from the changes.

According to Cadillac Society, the company has already ceased to install steering wheel heating and front seat ventilation into select model year 2022 cars, mostly the XT crossover trio mentioned above. Customers may look forward to minor discounts of $150–$500 depending on the scope of the options missing from their chosen configuration.

The automaker believes that retrofitting cars with certain features, such as the wheel heating, will become possible in the third quarter of 2022. It remains to be announced when the parking sensors will become available again, though.

The same microchip crisis forced General Motors to deliver some of its cars without engine start-stop and partial cylinder deactivation features. BMW had to say no to HUDs in select models for the time being.
