Cadillac discontinues its most popular sedan

Cadillac has put its XTS sedan/saloon of production, explaining that it had been originally introduced as a temporary substitute for the sportier CT6 that was under development at the time.

The XTS has been designed to appeal to the more conservative kind of customer averse to design experiments. Quite unexpectedly, it proceeded to become the marque’s single best-selling sedan model.

Now that the CT6 is out, the XTS is no longer needed – at least, this is what Cadillac would want us to believe. On the other hand, the sales numbers have been quite impressive, with 3,553 new XTS sold in the third quarter of 2017 alone, compared to 3,038 ATS and 3,045 CTS. This was followed by 4,101 units sold in 2018, as opposed to 3,695 CTS and 2,376 CT5.

Even as the discontinuation was announced, the popularity of the car soared once again.
