The Canadian government has decided to introduce a 100% barrier fee on all electric vehicles imported from China. It will be added to the existing 6.1% excise fee.
We are told that the reason for essentially pushing the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers out of the country is in their deceptive trade practices and unfair competition.
The authorities of Canada believe that enacting the new tariffs will help protect the country’s own automotive industry, which currently employs around 125,000 people.
