Anton Piëch, the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche and son of Ferdinand Piëch, founded his own company named Piëch Automotive three years ago. He then attended the last year’s Geneva show with an all-electric concept called Piëch Mark Zero. It is now official that the car will go into production as the Piëch GT2.
The company has recently launched the second financing stage of the project, building an engineering center and preparing to produce pre-production test units. Shipments aren’t expected until late 2022, though, so let us review what the car is all about.
The Piëch Mark Zero Concept has one electric motor on the front axle and two at the rear end, joining their efforts for 612 PS (603 hp / 450 kW). The development team says it should be able to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in under three seconds and cover 500 kilometers (310 miles) on a single charge, WLTP-rated. Recharging the battery takes 4 minutes 40 seconds from empty to 80 percent full.
The company says it has spent four years designing the platform for various body styles and powertrain layouts, so it’s only logical to expect an expansion of the model range in the future.
Last but not least, Piëch Automotive has strengthened its HR side by hiring former employees of major automotive companies. Matthias Mueller, CEO of Porsche in 2010 – 2015 and General Manager of the Volkswagen Group in 2015 – 2018, has assumed the Chairman’s position at the Board of Directors. Klaus Schmidt, ex-engineer of BMW Motorsport, became the Technical Director, and Andreas Henke, who has spent 18 years in Porsche and management company Burmester, wil be joining him soon. Responsible for the sales department is Jochen Rudat, the founder of the Tesla dealership network in Europe.
