Changan and Huawei team up to design a Tesla-rivaling EV

Avatar – a car marque co-founded by CATL, Changan and Huawei – has unveiled its first production vehicle named simply the 11. While still technically a concept, Autohome claims it is 99% production-ready and should debut next spring with the production set for Q3 2022.

The newcomer is an all-electric car with modular CHN underpinnings. It is close to the BMW X6 in terms of size, but has only four doors: the tailgate opens independently from the rear window, making it closer to hatchback or sedan as far as taxonomy is concerned. The Changan office based in Munich, Germany handled the design.

The company claims the car will need four seconds for the launch and will offer 700 km (435 miles) of range on a charge. Charging will be possible from 200kW DC stations. An autopilot system on board will use three LiDARs and a processing unit capable of 400 trillion operations per minute to ensure smooth unattended driving.

The production will take place at the Changan factory in Chongqing. Avatar plans to launch four different EVs within the next five years.
