Chinese automaker Changan launched the sub-brand Qiyuan for all-electric vehicles and hybrids around a year ago. However, its first mass-market model – so far known as the A07 – has only now been registered in the Patent Office, Autohome reports.
When it comes out, the sedan will most likely aim at the same market as the Tesla Model 3 and Volkswagen ID.7. It has a rather reserved, yet futuristic exterior with a sloped hood and unconventional lighting all around. The outlines resemble those of a fastback, and the patent images reveal a large fixed rear wing.
The documents state that the Qiyuan A07 is 4,905 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,480 mm tall with 2.9 meters between the axles and wheels sized up to 19 inches across. This makes it slightly larger than the Tesla Model 3, but smaller than the VW ID.7.
It is expected that the model will ship with a choice between an all-electric and a range-extender hybrid powertrain. The former will allegedly be available in 217 and 258 PS (214 and 254 hp; 160 and 190 kW) variants, while the latter will utilize the weaker of the two e-motors. A small 1.5-liter combustion engine will make 95 PS (94 hp / 71 kW) solely to charge up the battery in the REX hybrid version. The ranges are unknown so far.
The Qiyuan A07 will go on sale in Q3 2023.
