Changan rolls out another wannabe Tesla Model S killer

Changan will be introducing a new EV in China under its Qiyuan sub-brand that will boast a new, original design and be comparable in size to the Tesla Model S, AutoHome.cn points out.

Per the official spec sheet, the vehicle is 4,905 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,480 mm tall with 2.9 meters between the axles and 19-inch wheels. It is currently known as Changan Qiyuan A07, although the name may change before the launch. The interior looks rather laconic and the body is smooth and curvy with an understated front end. The two-tier headlights will likely utilize Matrix LEDs, although this remains to be confirmed.

The interior is also fairly minimalistic, evoking associations with Tesla cars. A large display resides at the middle of the dashboard, and there are only minimal hardware controls all around. The steering wheel has two spokes.

Rumor has it that the Qiyuan A07 will mainly ship as a battery EV, but will also have a range-extender hybrid version based on a petrol engine acting as a generator. Changan already has a similar powertrain composed of a 1.5-liter generator rated at 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and a single electric motor driving the wheels with 258 PS (254 hp / 190 kW).

There is still no official launch date.
