The upcoming Deepal G318 off-roader will be powered by a part-electric system producing 430 PS (424 hp / 316 kW), AutoHome reports quoting a patent application submitted in China. The buyers will be able to choose from a wide assortment of off-roading and camping accessories.
Deepal is a young car brand co-founded between Changan, Huawei and CATL. The G318 has already been previewed in 3D renderings, but today’s announcement is accompanied by a handful of live photos shot against a neutral background. These focus on the individual components, such as unusual-looking roof rails, extra lighting, running boards, and a trailer hook.
The rear end is no longer a secret, either. It sports pronounced fender flares and a rather elaborate-looking bumper. The tailgate carries a spare wheel and is side-hinged.
According to the spec sheet, the car is 4,998 x 1,985 x 1,960 mm large with 2,880 mm between the axles. Earlier reports had claimed the G318 was 4,750 mm long, but it is possible that the old number didn’t include the spare wheel.
When it reaches the market, the SUV will use a 178-PS (176-hp / 131-kW) motor at the front axle and a 252-PS (249-hp / 185-kW) one at the rear axle. It will also pack a range-extender petrol engine to maximize range on a full tank. The specifics are pending. Another important thing that remains to be clarified is whether the G318 is a unibody crossover or a body-on-frame SUV by design.
In earlier news, Deepal revealed that it envisioned the G318 as a family-friendly car for adventure enthusiasts. Its model designation is a nod to one of China’s biggest highways. Prices are expected to start from roughly 300,000 Chinese Yuan.
