China introduces an SUV with a 30-inch screen

Changan has unveiled the Auchan X5 Plus, an SUV whose main feature is a dashboard display measuring 30 inches (77 cm) corner to corner. Pre-orders will open on November 19, and prices haven’t been mentioned yet.

Coming in at 4,540 mm (177.3 inches) with a wheelbase spanning 2,715 mm (106 in), the car is a mid-size crossover SUV. The Auchan sub-brand is already offering a base X5 model (without the ‘Plus’ suffix), which is 50 mm (2 in) shorter and 5 mm (0.2 in) narrower.

Power comes from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 188 PS (185 hp / 138 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. A seven-speed preselector DCT drives the front wheels with no further options.

The display unit mentioned above represents a curved cluster composed of three individual displays working together to create a cockpit of sorts. Dual-screen designs are relatively common nowadays, but the added third display to the left offering real-time hints and assistance is an exclusive feature.
