Changan bringing the 2nd-gen CS55 Plus SUV to the Shanghai show

The long-awaited second generation of the Changan CS55 Plus will hit the spotlight on April 19, 2021, four years after the original launch at the same show.

Starting with exterior traits, the front fascia looks much like that of the larger Uni-K and Uni-T models. A see-through insert between the headlights probably conceals cameras and sensors. The rear license plate moves from the bumper to the tailgate.

Interestingly enough, there are no badges in sight. This most likely means that the second-gen CS55 Plus will debut under a different market name so that it may go on sale simultaneously with the old generation.

At 4,515 mm long, 1,865 mm wide and 1,680 mm tall with 2,656 mm of wheelbase, the SUV is marginally larger than its predecessor, although no more than 15mm (0.6”) in any given dimension.

The old 1.5-liter turbo-four mill gets a slight boost from 180 to 188 PS (185 hp / 138 kW), enabling a top speed of 190 km/h (118 mph). Fuel consumption averages at 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers. The stock seven-speed DCT only ever drives the front axle, and the only chance for the model to get AWD is if Changan decides to produce an all-electric "E-Rock" version of it.

The cabin has much in common with the Uni-K, including a multi-function steering wheel, the central display, the door handles and the center console. Having said that, the new combination trim looks cheaper than the fake leather of the Uni-K, and the displays are a few sizes smaller.

The first-gen Changan CS55 Plus can be bought in China for between 92,900 and 113,900 Yuan.
