The first examples of the transforming car known as the Nevo E07 or the Qiyuan E07 have rolled off the Changan Digital Factory assembly line in China. The vehicle is banked as an SUV that you can easily convert into a pickup truck. The sales will start in October.
Being a highly technologically advanced engineering complex, the Digital Factory employs 471 robots at its welding facility alone. Extreme automation lets the company churn out one car per minute. Changan says the factory will specialize in assembling only hi-tech vehicles, including those co-designed with Huawei.
A drop gate and a sliding glass panel at the back allow Nevo E07 owners to easily transform their SUV into a truck. It’s not a big one, with the maximum bed size at 2,880 x 1,550 mm (112.5 x 60.5 inches). The entry-level spec utilizes a single electric motor with 343 PS (338 hp / 252 kW) heading for the wheels, but the higher specs add a second motor with 256 PS (252 hp / 188 kW) of its own. It takes only four seconds for the AWD version to reach 100 km/h (62 mph), the manufacturer claims.
