The Deepal G318, co-designed between Changan and Huawei and known domestically as the Shenlan G318, will go on sale this summer with a number of high-end off-road features on board.
The vehicle is 5,010 mm long, 1,985 mm wide and 1,960 mm tall with 2,880 mm of wheelbase. It comes with Deepal’s trademark C-shaped headlights, a rather unusual body design with accentuated wheel arches and an advanced body kit. The roof-mounted floodlights seen here are part of an option pack.
The interior has a minimalist aesthetic with two displays built into the dashboard (the head unit is 14.6 inches large), an impressive transmission tunnel with a large selector on it, and dedicated HVAC controls. Owners will be able to choose from a wide range of trims using leather, Alcantara and gold accents.
In its simplest version, the G318 will utilize a 150-PS (148-hp / 110-kW) engine as a power generator for the main e-motor driving the rear axle with 252 PS (249 hp / 185 kW). Going for the top spec will net you a second motor for the front axle and bump the output to 430 PS (424 hp / 316 kW). Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) will take 6.3 seconds in this version.
On the off-road side of things, the company offers drivers as many as 16 electronic drive presets for all kinds of terrain. There is also an all-purpose mode for everyday urban driving, a power saving mode, and a few special/trick modes. Thanks to the electric powertrain, the SUV can perform a standing turn, which is considered a separate mode.
It is still unclear whether Changan and Huawei ever plan on bringing this model abroad or not.
