Changan Uni-V morphing into a hybrid with high driving range

Chinese automaker Changan is not averse to the idea of electrification, having just announced a part-electric variant of its Uni-V liftback. The car will reach the domestic market towards the end of 2022.

It will feature a model index ‘iDD’, which AutoHome.cn believes to be a hint at its powertrain. The hybrid version of the Changan Uni-K SUV also sports this index, which could mean the two might share the same powertrain.

The hybridized Uni-K comes powered by a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine and an electric motor joining their efforts for 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW). Its manufacturer-rated range is as high as 1,100 kilometers (683 miles).

As of right now, the Uni-V liftback is only available with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine capable of 188 PS (185 hp / 138 kW), which is mated to a semi-automatic transmission.
