The YouTube channel Wrecked Gear has posted an entertaining and insightful video featuring the Roxdawg, a homegrown off-roader designed to climb rocks. A sophisticated hydraulic setup enables the buggy to adjust the distance between its axles.
The Roxdawg takes advantage of a special two-part frame assembled securely with plenty of overlap. Thanks to a hydraulic drive, these frame parts can be moved apart from each other, adjusting the wheelbase within the range of 1,730 – 5,250 millimeters (67.6 – 205.1 inches). The ground clearance is likewise variable, and while the owner did not mention a specific range, the image here and the video should give you an idea.
Elsewhere, the insane mountain climber has beadlock protection on the wheels and relies on a 1.9-liter Volkswagen diesel for propulsion. The owner said he had spent 10 years working on it.
