Judging by the sheer number of modifications, this Allis-Chalmers 416 is more of a drag racer than a gardening appliance. Its 350cc engine runs on nitromethane and drives its rear wheels through a six-speed stick shift. Oh, and it’s on sale right now.
In the mid-20th century, Allis-Chalmers was one of North America’s leading manufacturers of agricultural and industrial machinery. It made lawnmowers, too, and the model 416 was one of the most popular ones. Its 588cc engine produced a solid 16 PS (16 hp / 12 kW) and drove the wheels through a four-speed transmission.
Lawnmower races aren’t exactly a rare phenomenon worldwide. In the United States, there’s even an association dedicated to this type of sports. The owner of this example wasn’t satisfied with the stock drivetrain, though, so they procured a Yamaha Warrior quad bike and transplanted its chassis and engine onto it.
The new 350cc, single-cylinder engine is air-cooled and accepts nitromethane for fuel. The output isn’t specified, but it has to be higher than the 16 hp mentioned above. The front wheels are individually suspended and benefit from height-adjustable coilovers.
The rear wheels wear Mickey Thompson slicks, and both axles take advantage of modern disc brakes. Like we said above, the transmission is six-speed manual. The seller doesn’t specify any sprint times, though.
The bidding is at $7,500 at the time of writing.
