Check out a motorhome with a school bus past

A motorhome running on the popular Freightliner FS65 school bus chassis will be put up for auction at Mecum Florida on July 11. It comes bundled with an electric bicycle attached to its rear end. No pricing estimates have been revealed.

The bus was produced from 1997 until 2006. It was available in a variety of wheelbase lengths and with engines from Caterpillar, Cummins and Mercedes-Benz. A total of 62,764 units were made, many still running on the U.S. roads.

The camper seen here is one of the later examples from 2006. Despite this, it managed to accumulate over 309,000 kilometers (192,000 miles) under its belt. That’s considerable mileage for the 4.8-liter Mercedes-Benz MBE-900 inline-six diesel under the hood. Power and torque aren’t specified, but the listing mentions an automatic transmission.

The living area offers beds for two adults, a sofa, a kitchen with a sink and a two-burner stovetop, an instantaneous water heater, a fridge, and two air conditioners. It also accommodates a shower cabin, a WC and plentiful storage cabinets. Batteries on board can be charged on demand and provide power for the appliances out in the wild.

The listing points out that this Freightliner FS65 had been fully restored and is currently registered as a van.
