A recent YouTube video shot at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este provides a nice overview of the Zagato Mostro barchetta set to come out in a series of only five units. The footage was filmed by the owner of the first supercar, who received it at the show.
The vehicle draws stylistic inspiration from two iconic classics at once – a 1931 Maserati 8C 2500 and a 1957 Maserati 450S. Coachbuilder Zagato designed the bodies for both.
It has a roadster-like carbon-fiber monocoque and double-wishbone suspension at both ends. The engine is installed at the front end and resides within the wheelbase, so the car is technically mid-engined.
Those financially stable enough to afford one can choose between a 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 and a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. Power ranges between 420 PS (414 hp / 309 kW) and 630 PS (621 hp / 463 kW) depending on your chosen spec, but the transmission is six-speed sequential in all cases. No dynamic acceleration figures are provided, but we would imagine a car weighing just 1,200 kilos (2,645 pounds) to be plenty fast with either of the engines mentioned above.
It is unclear whether the remaining four Mostro units have been sold out or not.
