Chery Gene tries to be unique with two drones and a skateboard in the trunk

Chinese automaker Chery has unveiled the Gene, a prototype version of an all-electric off-roader packed with modern features including a couple of drones and an electric skateboard in the trunk.

The car sports a very oddly shaped body combining boxy and rounded parts in a seemingly eclectic fashion. It is full 5 meters (16.4 feet) long and uses exclusively LED stripes for headlights and taillights. The b-pillars are not there by design, allowing the rear doors to swing open against the direction of the driving.

The trunk lid opens up automatically like a dome, letting the two quadcopters inside fly up and record footage while hovering next to the moving car. According to AutoHome, you can choose to display the drone footage on the 27-inch main screen in the cabin, or alternatively send it to a pair of VR goggles worn by a passenger. The driver can also put on the goggles as long as they engage full self-driving mode first. Doing so retracts the steering wheel into the dashboard and reclines the driver’s seat into a horizontal position for some rest.
