Chery has held a public contest on Dec. 7 – Jan. 11 to come up with a creative exterior styling for its upcoming all-electric crossover SUV named the S56. The company will likely change the proposed design before the production begins, but the winner of the contest will be getting a 50,000 Yuan prize.
More than 300 artists participated in the contest. The winning sketch was praised for its novel appearance lacking the squared-off aesthetic of most conventional SUVs.
In addition to that, the three-door vehicle received a minimal glass dome, huge wheels and a front grille stub with a backlit badge – a typical feature of modern EVs. What we found odd is just how long the hood was for a vehicle lacking a combustion engine. At any rate, the winner will be getting their hard-earned prize when the S56 ships later this year.
Chery has been testing the model since 2022. The S56 will slot into the Chinese automaker’s new range of electric vehicles called iCar, which already incorporates such entries as the eQ7, eQ1, S57 and E05. It will debut with an advanced cruise control corresponding to a Level 2 self-driving system.
