Chery Automobile has unveiled its own strategy of electrification in Beijing, announcing an expansion of the model range and the introduction of a few new sub-brands. Per Autohome, the company plans to invest over 100,000,000,000 Yuan into accelerating the implementation of its New Energy strategy until 2025.
The premium marque Exeed is set to launch a new family of electrified vehicles named Sterra (short from Star Era). A sedan called Sterra ES (formerly known as the Exeed E03) will arrive to the market first before the end of the current year. It will be 4.95 meters long, 1.96 meters wide and have 2.9 meters of wheelbase.
In 2024, an SUV named Sterra ET (internal designation E0Y) will join the ES. Both cars have already debuted as concepts. Later premieres will include a few more SUVs and a minivan.
For the Sterra EVs, the company will get a proprietary platform design called E0X. It will feature an 800V power architecture, air-ride suspension and 4WS. The company says it will lend itself well to RWD and AWD designs capable of accelerating 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in less than three seconds. The driving range will exceed 700 km (435 miles). The same platform will also be viable for range-extender hybrids (cars using their combustion engines to power up electric motors) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
Another sub-brand that will later be distilled into an independent marque is iCar, which will soon debut with a sports car prototype named GT and a large SUV dubbed S56.
