Chery Jaecoo 7 SUV bows in China

Carmaker Chery has unveiled a quasi-new SUV named the Jaecoo 7 at the Shanghai expo. It is essentially the export-oriented version of the Chery TJ-1 (see video).

The company admits that the exterior and interior design is very similar between the Chery T-J1 and the Jaecoo 7, but there are notable differences. The newcomer has its own radiator grille design, revised bumpers front and rear and a new steering wheel – although the cabin hasn’t been shown yet.

All technical parameters are likewise kept secret. Assuming that the drivetrain ends up being identical to those powering other Chery SUVs for China, it is most likely going to be a 1.6-liter turbo rated at 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW).

Going forward, the Jaecoo 7 lineup may also get a hybrid variant based on the same 1.6-liter engine. At any rate, it is official that the Chery T-J1 will be getting such an option in China soon, although its specs remain unannounced.
