Chery working on a new performance sedan

The Chinese automaker plans to launch a performance edition of its Arrizo 8 saloon, AutoHome reports referencing the recent patent filings. The so-called Arrizo 8 GT is set to debut with the most powerful engine in the lineup so far.

On the outside, the newcomer sports a revised radiator grille design (or rather, two different designs), a mildly reshaped front bumper and four tailpipes at the back. It stays the same size at 4,780 x 1,843 x 1,469 millimeters with 2,790 mm of wheelbase. The manufacturer plans to offer the car with four different wheel designs sized up to 18 inches in diameter.

The propulsion is granted by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 254 PS (251 hp / 187 kW) and 390 Nm (288 lb-ft) of torque. The same mill is already in use in the Tiggo SUV lineup where it links to a seven-speed DCT. The Arrizo 8 GT needs 6 seconds to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) and tops out at 215 km/h (133 mph). The sprint time is comparable to that of, say, the BMW 530i.

The previous flagship of the Arrizo 8 family was a sedan with a 1.6-liter turbo engine and just 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW) at its disposal.
