Chery launches eQ7 production

The third all-electric car in Chery’s eQ lineup has reached the production stage. It will join the company of a mini-hatchback and another CUV in the eQ family when it becomes available in late 2023. Note that the designation ‘eQ7’ is temporary: the company is letting buyers vote for the final name.

Prices will begin at roughly 150,000 Yuan. The car is built on a new platform that heavily relies on aluminum parts for a more rigid body and 30% lower frame weight. It is 4,675 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,660 mm tall with 2,830 mm between the axles.

The original announcement was in April. The car premiered with a rather unusual exterior design by Chery standards, sporting an aerodynamic body with large air intakes and two-tier headlights. Inside, the transmission tunnel was rather laconic and the dashboard housed large displays alongside pronounced AC vents.

For propulsion, the crossover relies on a single electric motor driving the front axle with 211 PS (208 hp / 155 kW). It uses a LiFePo4 battery of unspecified capacity, but the company promises us over 500 km (310 miles) of range on a charge. The drivetrain offers four selectable modes and two regenerative brake presets.

Included in the spec sheet are heated, massaged and ventilated seats, an advanced infotainment system, an ambient lighting system with 64 colors to switch among, an HVAC system with a fine particle filter, and more than 20 driving aids.
