The Ministry of Industry of China has shared some new information about the Chery Fengyun T9, a plug-in hybrid relative of the Tiggo 9 SUV coming to the market in five- and seven-seat variants on April 30, 2024.
Car News China is reporting that the new SUV will cost between 150,000 and 170,000 Yuan, which corresponds to U.S. $21,100–23,900.
Regardless of the number of seats, the car is 4,795 mm (187.3 in) long and 1,930 mm (75.4 in) wide. The seven-seat version is 3 millimeters taller at 1,741 mm (68 in), but that’s negligible. The wheelbase is also the same at 2,770 mm (108.2 in). The five-seater weighs 1,898 kg (4,185 lbs) and the seven-seater 1,953 kg (4,305 lbs). Both can be optioned with 19-inch or 20-inch wheels.
The powertrain is called Kungpeng Super Performance Electric Hybrid C-DM. It comprises a 1.5-liter petrol engine with 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and an electric motor with 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW). Their respective torques peak at 220 and 310 Nm (162 and 229 lb-ft). The battery pack comes from Hefei Guoxuan Hi-Tech Power Energy and yields 19.4 kilowatt-hours of juice per charge, which translates into 100 km (62 miles) of CLTC range. In hybrid mode, the Fengyun T9 consumes 5.2 liters of gas per 100 km, which roughly amounts to 45 miles per U.S. gallon.
Compared to the Chery Tiggo 9, the SUV looks rather different – primarily thanks to a new radiator grille and bumper. Inside, the Fengyun cars typically have separate dash and infotainment displays instead of a solid two-part display like the latest Tiggo 9.
