Chery QQ gets urgent plastic surgery to rescue sales

The quirky supermini known as the Chery QQ Ice Cream came out in China less than two years ago and had been selling fairly well throughout the launch year, but then plummeted. The company has now facelifted it in an apparent attempt to stop the fall.

The 2024 Chery QQ sports new badges, wheel hubcaps, bumpers, and panels separating the headlights and taillights (they are now black).

Inside, the trim materials have been revised and the rearview mirror has been enlarged a little, but that’s all. Like before, the QQ still has no infotainment display in the center of the dash, not even as a paid option. Everything digital is accessible from the instrument display.

The old 27-PS (27-hp / 20-kW) electric motor is still available. You can settle for the standard 9.4-kWh traction battery to get 120 km (75 miles) of urban driving range or pay more for a 13.9-kWh pack and get 170 km (105 mi).

Should it be not enough, however, there is a new top specification that includes a 41-PS (40-hp / 30-kW) electric motor and a superior 17.4-kWh battery. It actually looks decent for city use with 205 km (127 miles) of range.

Priced from 29,900, the new Chery QQ handily undercuts its main rival, the Wuling Mini EV (see video).
