Mecum Auctions will hold a sale in November 2018 dedicated to an antiquated 1942 Chevrolet G-7117 remodeled into a motorhome.
The Chevrolet G-7117 is essentially a military personnel carrier. This copy has been reimagined as a full-fledged camper vehicle, though, complete with a small kitchen and a bedroom trimmed with solid oak.
The conversion must have made the car much heavier than it used to be, but the powerful 5.7L V8 engine coupled with a 4-speed manual transmission and two-speed transfer gearbox has no trouble lugging this kind of weight around.
Among other things, the all-wheel-driven Chevrolet G-7117 by Mecum features a shovel, a pickaxe, two roof-mounted antennas and a front bumper winch.
General Motors has produced around 168,000 Chevrolet G-7117 in 1940 through 1945. Many of these later ended up in the USSR. They came equipped with six-cylinder inline engines, so the auction copy must have got its V8 elsewhere.
