General Motors intends to invest U.S. $300 million in designing and developing a new all-electric crossover/SUV based on the current Chevy Bolt.
The car goes unnamed so far, but the North American automotive company has recently acquired the rights to the ‘Bolt EUV’ trademark, so that could be it.
The early prototype you can see here was spotted in Michigan. It looks bulkier than the regular Bolt and rides silently, the photographer claims, which could be an indication of an all-electric powertrain. More evidence comes in the form of the missing exhaust tips and the completely flat bottom of the car.
As far as the platform is concerned, chances are high that GM will use the BEV2 architecture as the production basis for the SUV.
The Chevrolet Bolt EUV might celebrate its debut sometime in 2020. It might initially ship with the same electric engine as the regular Bolt, with improvements following shortly to extend the driving range.
