Restomod maker Icon has taken the wraps off its latest work, a 1954 Chevrolet Thriftmaster equipped with a modern V8 engine and per-wheel suspension.
Just looking at the car, you might think it is simply a carefully restored and repainted vintage vehicle with a fancy aftermarket wheel set. The truth is much more profound, though: this particular Thriftmaster rides on a new, purpose-built RWD chassis and packs a 6.2-liter Chevrolet LS3 V8 rated at 420 hp (313 kW).
The cabin stays true to its retro stylistic, but contains a slew of modern features such as sensors and digital devices tracking the performance of all car components in real time. The full list is too long, so we will just mention the automatic 0-60 mph sprint meter and the high-end audio system with Bluetooth support.
Icon does not reveal the price, but you can bet it lies well in the six-digit territory. For instance, the same team once launched the project to convert old Ford Broncos into what they called the ‘Icon BR Old School’. Each conversion cost between 150,000 and 195,000 USD for the materials and job alone, meaning you were still supposed to provide your own vehicle.
