This 51-year-old Chevrolet C40 trumps modern trucks in sheer machismo

Thinking of buying a new Ford F-150, Volkswagen Amarok or Nissan Navara? Throw a glance at this half-a-century old truck restored to top condition – you may as well realize those are all children’s toys in comparison.

The handsomely muscular vehicle from the North American automotive past wears a stylish black paint coat interspersed with dull silvery accents and adorned with side stripes. The greatest eye-catcher is the enormous 24x12-inch wheel set with beadlocks, wrapped in even more extreme 40-inch off-road tires. The latter upgrade necessitated cutting out the wheel arches and lifting the suspension into high heaven, but who would dare say the result wasn’t worth it?

The cab enjoys a similarly extensive overhaul. It sports two roof hatches, room for six passengers, and fine black leather upholstery. Modern amenities include climate control, USB ports and a retro audio player. Chrome trim elements adorn the steering wheel, the dashboard and some other parts on the inside.

The truck – which is reportedly in perfectly drivable condition – costs U.S. $129,000. Before you think that’s too much, consider for a moment how much its abovementioned modern rivals cost and what they bring to the table that this one doesn’t.
