73-year-old Chevy 3600 lives again on parts scavenged from Corvettes

Mecum will be holding an auction in Kansas in early December dedicated to a rare Chevrolet 3600 truck restored to top driving condition.

The body alone took around 400 hours of work to strip off the frame and restore. The frame itself was allowed to stay stock. The aftermarket company that performed the job replaced the entire suspension using air-ride components for the rear axle and coilovers for the front end. The latter were sourced from a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette. The whole exterior was ultimately sprayed in a rich shade of red.

Fourth-gen Corvette donated the wheel set, and modern brakes were installed instead of the original drums. The bed was lined with wood, and the cabin ended up with a modernized center console and leather seats. modern amenities on board include an infotainment system with Bluetooth support, a Vintage USA dashboard, and some others.

Powering the retro truck is a 5.7-liter V8 with a carburetor, a sports-grade air intake and a new exhaust system. The power isn’t specified anywhere, but the transmission is none other than the Turbo 350, a three-speed automatic design from Chevrolet.
