Check out a World War II-era dragster truck

Apparently, a 1945 Chevrolet cargo hauler provides a viable basis for a dragster conversion. The work is still in progress, but when all is said and done, this Chevy should be able to do the quarter-mile in under eight seconds.

Power for the build originates from a 5.9-liter Cummins diesel turbocharged to an insane 1,283 American horsepower (1,300 PS / 956 kW). The mill is so huge, there was no way to squeeze it under the hood, so the cover had to go, essentially making this a Rat Rod project.

The bed stays completely OEM, but a truck with suspension as low as this probably won’t be hauling any heavy weights around. Giant slicks in the arches help deliver more power to the ground, but they still struggle under the load.

On the 402-meter-long strip, the truck has a current best time of 8.9 seconds. Its owner is optimistic about reaching sub-8-second times in the near future, however, so here are our best wishes!
