GM’s latest car ad stars Will Ferrell driving a GMC Sierra Denali through a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas in an obvious nod to the 2021 movie Army of the Dead.
The ad – which was filmed for the Super Bowl, the ultimate game in the U.S. NFL Championship – has Ferrell contemplating a partnership with GM a Netflix as he cuts his way through hordes of zombies.
He then gets out of the truck and into an electrified Chevy Blazer, and the whole action turns into a parody of the earlier Squid Game episodes. The protagonist then loses consciousness after breathing in a gas cloud.
A scene from Bridgerton follows with Ferrell explaining that electric cars will only ever be featured in movies where they make sense and not, for example, in historical dramas. Moments later, we cut to a runaway bride climbing into the cabin of a GMC Hummer EV.
Doesn’t compute? Better just to watch it yourself, then. Super Bowl ads are nothing if not original, after all. Oh, and there’s a twist ending.
