Chevrolet Camaro sales in the United States have been steadily on the decline, yielding even to the usual ‘outsider’ – the Dodge Challenger – in the first 6 months of 2019. To rescue the situation, Chevrolet has decided to play it smart and offer $2,500 off any Camaro trim to all certified Ford Mustang owners.
With the discount factored in, you can buy an entry-level Camaro for U.S. $23,495, which is $3,175 below the minimum price tag of the Mustang. Tradeoffs include cheaper interior finish and comparatively sluggish acceleration, though, so we wouldn’t expect the promotion to be a huge success.
The executives at the GMC’s Chevrolet division are listening in closely on Camaro’s metaphorical pulse, ready to discontinue production if the sales don’t improve by January 2020. This is a distinct possibility, given that the model hit an all-time low in 2018.
