The show car depicted here has a rich background behind it. After rolling off the assembly lines in 1971, it underwent its first restoration in 1980 and has since attended prestigious shows and winning prizes, with new modifications made every now and then.
Before its current owner Steve Aguilar acquired it, it used to be blue. Steve gave it its namesake ‘Infrared’ paintjob and re-trimmed the interior with Euro-style black leather. Note the red instrument gauges.
The materials chosen for restoration are also quite interesting. For instance, the shiny metal parts are brushed nickel rather than chrome, and the glass dome is made of ultra-clear Plexiglas. Steve had to order the clear composite material from Jordan, because allegedly none of the U.S.-based auto shops could produce it in the required quality.
The drivetrain is quite spectacular as well. The stock engine gives way to a new LSX Smallblock V8 7.4 by General Motors, boosted to deliver up to 600 hp (447 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. The transmission is six-speed manual, and while we do not know the sprint times, it seems likely that this particular Camaro can successfully challenge some of the modern supercars.
