Steve Morris Engines, a tuner shop well-known for its extreme dragster and performance car projects, has turned a fifth-gen Chevy Camaro into an insane 2,000-hp (1,500-kW) ride and put it on the dyno stand to show off its chops. Watch the video, it’s crazy good!
The seven-minute long footage provides some insight into the specifics of the build and reveals that the Camaro has been swapped to a custom-made Steve Morris SMX engine boosted by twin turbochargers each measuring 94 millimeters across.
The list of modifications goes on to mention an oil-based cooling system for the engine and a dedicated cooling circuit for the transmission, an urgent necessity for this kind of build. Interestingly, the boost pressure stays relatively low at max. 20 psi.
As you can also see, the team had to take apart the entire front end of the car to accommodate all the top-performance components. With an approach like this, you’d expect the interior to be stripped bare of everything not strictly needed for drag racing. This is notably not the case here, because there are comfortable sport seats inside, as well as a full-fledged car audio system.
