1986 Chevy Camaro does its best Testarossa impression

Understanding people who stylize their cheap rides after supercars isn’t that hard: who wouldn’t want to come a few steps closer to fulfilling their life’s dream? But this reasoning often falls apart when you learn just how much the effort cost.

Take the Ferrari Testarossa, for example. The gorgeous Italian starts from around €80,000 used in Europe. An old 1986 Chevrolet Camaro comes at a quarter of that price, but throw in a custom-made Testarossa styling kit, a complete interior makeover and all the small-yet-important details, and you’re easily flushing around €50,000 down the drain. And just what would you be willing to call the result? ‘Camarari’? ‘Camarossa’?

At any rate, one such example stands right before you. The owner says it took him three years to finish the job, making us wonder why he couldn’t at least find convincingly stylized Ferrari headlights in the meantime.

The body looks so-so, with the front end and the sides pretty decent and the rear end leaning towards nightmare fuel. The cabin design is all over the place, but at least the Ferrari gear stick is present. The engine benefits from numerous improvements and churns out healthy 500 hp (373 kW), but it sits at the front end and not the rear, because this is still a Camaro.

Long story short: sometimes it just pays to wait and save up until you can buy the real thing, rather than invest into a fake and look like a fake.
