Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang production halted over parts shortage

General Motors and Ford have paused the U.S.-based production of their most iconic vehicles – the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang.

According to Carscoops, the pause will last no less than a week, and the companies blame supply disruptions for it. Although muscle car sales fell in the first quarter of 2022 across the whole industry, the Mustang still managed to outsell all of its principal rivals.

General Motors did not reveal any particulars about the parts they are short on, except that they were not electronic components, like chips. The same factory that stopped building Camaros also has multiple Cadillac models in production, which may or may not be affected.

In turn, Ford blamed semiconductor shortage for the disruption, but pointed out that only the Michigan factory was affected. The industrial complex there makes exclusively Mustangs.

Both sites are set to re-open on Monday, April 11, if everything goes as planned.
