In a time when new cars ship slowly and get slammed with huge markups, going for a properly restored classic could be just the right thing to do. This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro was supposed to go under the hammer on May 21, but the bidding time has been extended.
The seller does not reveal the name of the aftermarket shop that conducted the restoration, but there is no mistaking the professional approach. The exterior has been freshened up considerably with replacement bodywork, a new domed hood and a trunk lid with a prominent ducktail spoiler attached. The entire body and kit were given a fresh coat of dark grey paint, and wheels were installed in a sharply staggered fashion: 18-inch ones at the front and 20-inch ones in the back.
Still, the most interesting part of the project is arguably the engine. The 53-year-old Camaro draws its power from a 7.0-liter V8 sourced from a C6 ‘Vette Z06. In its stock form, the mill makes 512 PS (503 hp / 375 kW), but an added Edelbrock supercharger drives it to 659 PS (650 hp / 485 kW). A Tremec six-speed manual gearbox conveys the torque to the rear axle.
Other noteworthy additions include a custom subframe, Wilwood brakes at all four corners, and coil-over suspension. The steering benefits from a new rack-and-pinion mechanism, and exhaust gases exit through a custom 76mm (3”) stainless-steel system.
