Chevy Camaro gets 10.4 liters of displacement in the latest drag-racing version

Chevrolet has spruced up its COPO Camaro lineup of drag-focused muscle cars. The top spec will ship with a massive 10.4-liter V8 under the hood, and you can already leave a pre-order.

The V8 in question is a crate engine introduced last fall. In its simplest naturally aspirated form, it produces 1,004 PS (990 hp / 738 kW) and 1,188 Nm (876 lb-ft) of torque. The lifespan is estimated at 200 drag strip runs. Naturally, it is not street-legal.
The detailed parameters of the 10.4-liter V8 remain to be revealed. The previous generation of the COPO Camaro had 9.4 liters of displacement at its disposal, but the manufacturer says that engine would no longer be available.

Those who feel like too much displacement is not their thing may opt for an entry-level 7,0-liter non-turbo V8 still capable of 470 PS (464 hp / 346 kW). If you aim for the middle ground, consider a 5.7-liter turbo mill rated at 580 PS (572 hp / 427 kW). All prices remain to be announced.

The Chevrolet COPO Camaro is not a road-legal car and must be driven solely on dedicated closed tracks. The tuner team over at Hennessey Performance did produce a street-going version of it once, though, dubbed The Exorcist. That car packed 1,013 PS (1,000 hp / 746 kW) and was drivable on the road and the track.
