You know things are getting stale in the industry (any industry) when companies choose to imitate past designs instead of coming up with new ones. Cars aren’t an exception: the so-called ‘retromods’ sell for six-digit USD prices nowadays. This one seems to be a welcome exception, with Volo Cars posting it for just $62,000.
The roadster is based on a 2002 Camaro SS Z28 chassis and has a body inspired by the classic 1969 RS Z28 model. The owner claims they spent roughly $100,000 on the conversion. It certainly looks unique, especially when you consider that the original Z28 flagship had no cloth top option.
The level of detail is impressive: even the pop-up headlights are replicated rather convincingly. The shiny chromed front end and matching rear end are also nicely done – and then there is the side view.
It’s not even that the proportions are wildly off – this is the case with most retromods, after all. The windshield angle is very odd and looks inconvenient for the driver, to say nothing of it being historically inaccurate. As a result, a car that’s supposed to be a fusion of two Camaros ends up looking nothing like one.
Perhaps this is one the asking price is so moderate. Then again, the stock 330-PS (325-hp / 243-kW) engine is still under the hood, so that, too, could be a contributing factor. The mileage is low at just 9,000 km (5,625 mi), but it is there. Last but not least, the interior looks woefully outdated and may need an overhaul.
Those subjective thoughts aside, how do you like this one? Would you ever consider buying a similar car?
