Paul Walker’s elderly Chevrolet Camaro goes under the hammer

A dilapidated-looking 1969 Chevy Camaro will hit the auction block in the United States in mid-August. Paul Walker, best known for his role in the Fast & Furious franchise, had worked on restoring the car with his friend Roger Rodas until the accident of 2013 that claimed the actor’s life.

This Camaro left the factory as a Z28 model outfitted with the optional RS (Rally Sport) package. As a first-generation example, it rocked a 4.9-liter V8 nominally rated at 290 PS (286 hp / 213 kW). The general agreement at the time was that the output was deliberately played down by Chevrolet. A four-speed manual transmission drove the wheels.

The car was marketed as track-ready, so it came equipped with racing suspension, power disc brakes and exclusive 15-inch wheels. The RS package complemented all of the above with concealed headlights, revised brake lights and a different exterior design.

The seller claims that the coupe still retains its original powertrain units bearing OEM serial numbers. However, judging by the images here, the Camaro may need more than just a visit to a body shop. The engine bay and the interior are also visibly degraded, although the cabin still seems decent enough to bother.

After Walker’s demise, the car was handed back to its previous owner, dedicated Camaro collector Merle Dupree. It was later acquired by Solo Speed Shop. In all likelihood, the seller will be emphasizing how easy it is to restore it, but we suspect that whoever ends up buying it may do so in memory of the actor. If so, they may want never to touch the car again.
